If a wig is not for you, then you can go for salon-made clip in hair extensions that are braided or glued to your own hair. High quality designers’ wigs look very natural - nobody will guess that you are wearing a wig unless you tell them. If you have a short haircut, but are dying for long locks, buy a wig that is similar in colour to your natural hair. Clip in Hair extensions only look natural when they are mixed in with your natural hair, so if your hair is short, people will notice that you are wearing extensions.

Clip in hairpieces come in a range of colour and styles and usually made from synthetic fibres so easily maintained. However, clip in hairpieces will work for women with very short hair, as these are worn over the top of your own ponytail. If you have long but very fine hair, or your hair is not in its best condition, clip-in hair extensions are a great way to bring richness and fullness to your hair. If you have medium length hair, extensions can make it longer.

Alicia Keys Selling Long Island House

THE musician and actress Alicia Keys has accumulated a few awards in her 29 years. Actually, she’s got a ton of them, including 12 Grammy awards, 11 Billboard Music awards, 3 BET awards and 3 MTV Video Music awards. (Who else feels unaccomplished today?)

And as is customary with this sort of runaway success, Ms. Keys has also accumulated some fancy real estate along the way.

Ms. Keys, a native Manhattanite, is putting one of those larger monuments to her success on the market: a seven-bedroom house in Syosset, on the North Shore of Long Island, for $3.85 million. No word on whether she’ll throw in a statuette or two.“You don’t feel lost in the house,” said Shaun Osher, the founder of CORE, the real estate firm that has the listing. “It’s tastefully done within the scale of the property. That makes it feel luxurious and grand, but not ostentatious or over the top.”

That scale, however, is definitely plus-sized: the two-story house has about 9,000 square feet.

It was built in 1981 — the year Ms. Keys was born — in a style that Mr. Osher describes as “almost Mediterranean.”

The house, where Ms. Keys has lived since 2004, has seven bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, a piano room and a three-car garage. Out back, there is a 2,000-square-foot deck, a pool, a pool house and a Jacuzzi.

“It’s on a cul-de-sac and it’s very private,” Mr. Osher said. “And it certainly feels like you’re out of the city.”

Alicia Keys Refuses To Dye Her Hair Red To Sell Records

Thursday, June 17th 2010

n a recent interview with ELLE magazine, R&B songstress Alicia Keys shared some choice words regarding the direction of her music and image. Keys stated that her look is not “plotted” and that she refuses to adjust her image every time decides to release a new album. Peep what she had to say below:

“My look isn’t plotted, like, I’m not going to have red hair because it’s a new record. It has to be genuine, not a branding concept.”

Alicia Keys 'Can't Wait' To Be A Mom ?

While she has been quiet about her pregnancy and relationship with Swizz Beatz for sometime, Alicia Keys is now happy to let the world know her first child is a "gift".

"I can’t wait to become a mom. No question," she told The Mirror (UK) recently. "It’s the most beautiful gift in the world. Truly a gift from God."

Recalling the close relationship she has with her mother, Keys hopes the same bond will happen with her own child.

"I have an amazing mother – she is a best friend to me. And I would like to be the same to my child," says the "Unthinkable ("I'm Ready') singer.

As previously reported, Keys and Swizz Beatz are officially engaged, expecting and planning a wedding, rumored to be set for this summer. She is also booked to play several concerts throughout the summer including the Essence Music Festival, taking place in New Orleans, LA over the July 4th holiday in the U.S.

"Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" (Alicia Keys Cover)

While promoting her splendid Body Talk Pt. 1 album on BBC radio this week, Swedish pop songstress Robyn covered Alicia Keys' melodramatic "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart." You can hear the cover over at Sound Off. Robyn's cover is considerably more electro, understandably, but she's able to out weep Keys here, bending the song to fit alongside "Dancing On My Own" on Body Talk.

Alicia endears herself to Durbanites

17 June 2010

RESIDENTS from the sprawling suburb of Wentworth, south of Durban, came out in their thousands on Monday to catch a glimpse of 13-time Grammy winner and R&B singer Alicia Keys.

The singer was in the area to open the Blue Roof Wellness Centre, once a notorious nightclub, as part of her Keep a Child Alive campaign, of which she is a co-founder and global ambassador.

Keys first visited the Blue Roof in 2006 and found a derelict building.

The centre currently provides life-saving anti-retrovirals to 1,000 patients as well as services that include HIV counselling and testing, home-based care, psycho-social support and a revolutionary nutrition programme through which they prepare free nutritious meals every day to patients and their families who visit the clinic, which is at the centre.

Speaking to the enthralled crowd she said: “I am so proud of this centre. It is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. Way better than the World Cup”.

The visibly pregnant star then made her way to a piano set up at the centre and sang two songs, much to the delight of the audience.

Pray for Forgiveness was dedicated to her mother Terri Augello, while I am a Superwoman was dedicated to the staff who run the centre.

She said the centre, which Keep a Child Alive bought in 2005, was a shining example of how people can “get love”.

She encouraged everyone to help in any way possible. She also said the centre would never turn anyone who needed help away.

She spent most of her time talking and playing with orphaned and HIV-infected children.

Before driving off in a heavily guarded convoy, she greeted thousands of Wentworth residents who had gathered at the gate.

Alicia Keys Dishes On Adding 'Flavor' To The Soundtrack

The "Sex and the City" ladies by now represent New York as much as the Empire State Building and Central Park. So who better to put her own touch on the "Sex and the City 2" soundtrack than Alicia Keys, another iconic New Yorker.

The Big Apple-born singer was approached by the "SATC2" soundtrack executive producer, Salaam Remi, to add some modern flair to the "SATC" theme song. In this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Salaam said that Alicia was a natural choice. "I thought about different people who also embody the culture of New York, being a New Yorker, being able to represent that now. Alicia Keys made total sense."

Alicia said she was "really excited" to be a part of the film's soundtrack. "It happened really naturally, really organically. Salaam is a good friend of mine, I've known him for a lot of years, and for him to be involved in all the music for the film is just incredible."

By now you've probably seen "SATC2," so you know that Alicia's hit with Jay-Z, "Empire State of Mind," opens the film, which then transitions into a new version of the theme song that's mashed up with Blondie's "Rapture."

"I was sitting down just thinking of a lot of ways to interpret the theme," Salaam said, "and Blondie's 'Rapture' was just one of the ideas that popped into my head, because I was thinking CBGBs, female, Studio 54. That was one of my favorite songs...It was an easy mix in my brain for that to happen."

Robyn Covers Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” On BBC1

You already know we’re OBSESSED with Robyn, and we’re stoked that her just-released Body Talk Pt. 1 has drawn raves. Now we would never tell Robyn what to do (she doesn’t really like it), but if we were ever going to suggest something, it might well be, “Hey, would be maybe consider singing an Alicia Keys cover sometime?” Guess what, fembots? Robyn visited BBC1’s Live Lounge this week, and delivered an amazing live cover of “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart”. Listen below.

We’ve always thought Robyn’s vocals convey a certain weathered soulfulness (and Keri Hilson kind of agrees with us). And just as all of us Robyn stans suspected, she wraps that voice beautifully around Alicia’s heart-breaking R&B balladry.

Robyn also performed her bittersweet club monster “Dancing On My Own”. We have to wonder whether Robyn will be adding the cover to her set list when she heads out on the All Hearts tour with Kelis, on her own dates or at the Pitchfork Music Festival — not that we’d, you know, ask her to.

Alicia Keys sings Durban's praises

une 16, 2010

By Barbara Cole

Superstar Alicia Keys has sung the praises of "brilliant, beautiful" Durban, and paid tribute to the unique wellness centre which she had funded.

And then, to the surprise of everyone at The Blue Roof Wellness Centre, she sang to her mother, Terri Augello, who was also visiting the Wentworth centre, and then to the dedicated staff.

She sang Pray For Forgiveness, to her mother and I am Superwoman, to the staff.

The state-of-the-art care centre, which provides Aids treatment and care for 1 000 patients a month, has been made possible by Keep A Child Alive.

On Tuesday was the first time that the 13-time Grammy Award winner had seen the centre since 2006, when it was an empty shell and her plans for it were still just a dream.

"It is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. Way better than the World Cup," said Keys, who sang at the tournament's glittering official opening concert last week.

Keys said it had been a very emotional return trip. She had seen how people were being cared for and treated with love.

She called on Durbanites to help to make the centre an "incredible, shining example" of a centre where people received respect and where no one was turned away.

How to Blow Dry Your Hair

How to Blow Dry Your Hair

If you use a blow dryer on your hair every day, then you will want to take special measures to keep your hair from drying out. Excessive heat from the blow dryer can be very damaging for your hair. Luckily, steps can be taken to prevent hair damage from occurring.

1. Be sure to use conditioner. This will keep your hair feeling and looking hydrated, even after you have used a blow dryer.

2. Upon exiting the shower, get as much moisture out of your hair as possible. You will want to scrunch the wetness out with a towel, but be sure not to rub!

3. Apply a protective hair product or mousse which is designed to make your hair damage resistant to heat. Many of these products will steam once heat hits them, so don’t be alarmed- you aren’t on fire!

4. Never put the blow dryer directly against your hair. It is important to keep it 4-6 inches away from your hair at all times.

5. After your hair is mostly dry, you can begin to style each individual section. This may require clipping and separating different sections of your hair. If you have shorter hair, you may only need to run the dryer through it once before straightening or applying product.

A woman's wedding day is a source of great joy for her. But it is also a source of great stress. It is hard to find the perfect dress, shoes, hairstyle, and then on top of that you must plan the reception and wedding itself. When it comes to hairstyles, once you have chosen the one that you want the most, you then have to decide whether or not you want to wear any accessories. Accessories will give your wedding hairstyle a modern, updated twist and will make you look very elegant and sophisticated.

There is a wide variety of accessories that you can choose from. There are tiaras, headbands, clips, hairpins, feathers, and much more that you can choose from. You need to make sure that you choose the right accessories. You want to have a balanced and stylish look, not one that leaves you looking like you are either trying too hard or even worse, not hard enough. If you are having an outdoor wedding for example, then you may not want to go with fake flowers, but you may want to go with real flowers. These will look better than artificial flowers if you are having a wedding in the park or on a beach.

Another thing that you need to remember is to accessorize based on your face shape. Round faces will look the very best with a tiara that is V angled while bands look best with long faces. Oval faces should avoid angled accessories but look great with a tiara, hairband, or something that huddles up to the back of the hair.

If you look at a picture of short hairstyles from the 1920's, you'll see that the hair is "marcelled." This was a process by which women's hairstyle was coaxed into tight, head-hugging waves. Recently, a long layered hair style was at the forefront of the beauty industry, but more recently, women have once again embraced the freedom and surprising versatility of short hairstyles. Short hairstyles, like most styles, come in and out of fashion regularly, but they usually spend more time "in" than out.
